Antenatal care within walking distance
Monthly clinics in nine villages more than two hours from the nearest health centre, run with the existing ASHA network.
Why this work
A woman in these villages who wants a check-up loses two days to it. Most do not go until something is wrong, and by then the same journey has to happen at night. District figures show the villages here have the lowest rate of four antenatal visits in the state, and it is a transport problem before it is anything else.
Rather than build anything, the project brings the check-up to the village once a month and pays the ASHA who already lives there to keep the register between visits. It is unglamorous and it is mostly logistics. The risk we are watching is that a monthly clinic becomes a reason for the district not to send anyone the rest of the time.

Safeguarding & monitoring
All field staff work under the foundation's child protection and grievance policies. Data is collected against the indicators above, reviewed twice a year with the community, and published in the annual report whether or not it is flattering.
